Advertising has always been an interesting way to look at history. But when you see these vintage advertisements, the past seems a lot stranger than you thought. 🔻 🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻🔻 In 1912, P. Lorillard Company thought a good way to sell cigarettes to men was to take a swipe at women's suffrage. Depictions of suffragettes as homely, obnoxious spinsters were common prior to the passage of the 19th Amendment in 1919 that granted women the right to vote.
